Mohan Dutt is a widower with two children Daughter Divya 10 years and Son Gaurav 8 years.
He is working for a toy-making company. Relatives are keen to get him married again,
but he is not interested. He felt the step-mother would wish to have her own children and would make
Divya and Gaurav suffer.
Divya and Gaurav go to school and tuition together. After coming from school Divya does all
housework, studies, and takes care of Gaurav. In the Evening she helps her father in cooking meals for
all of them. Life is a struggle for Mohan and Divya. Gaurav being small takes everything
easy. Suddenly Mohan loses his job and starts a small retail business selling toys. He gets tired
as he has to deliver the toy from shop to shop. He is sure the day his son Gaurav grows up, he will look
after him.
Divya and Gaurav grew up. Divya works for a graphic design company, whereas Gaurav only
12th and is working for Share Broker. Divya is getting good alliances as she is a beautiful girl, but
Mohan is unable to pay their dowry. Gaurav is in love with Aarti. Aarti is the only child of a well-to-do
family and forces him to be ‘Ghar Jamai’ if he wants to marry her. Gaurav grew up in poverty,
hence Aarti’s offer suits him.
Mohan is unable to stop him as Gaurav rebels. Gaurav gets married to Aarti without informing Mohan
and Divya and staying in Aarti’s House. He comes to meet Mohan at home under the pretext of Aarti
seeking blessings from him. He takes all his belongings and never returns back.
Months pass and Mohan comes to know that Aarti is pregnant. He takes fruits and sweets for her.
She neither comes out of her room to meet him nor accepts fruit and sweets. Gaurav tells Mohan
not to visit them as it will spoil his relationship with Aarti. Aarti gives birth to a Baby Boy. The child
looks the same as Gaurav. Despite Aarti and Gaurav’s bad behavior, Mohan visits them, but Aarti
does not allow him to touch the child.
Back home Mohan tells everything to Divya, but she is not ready to listen to her father, as she feels
that Mohan is making the same mistake again and again by going to Aarti’s home and getting insulted
by both of them. Divya feels that she is wasting her life looking after her father and in return, her
father thinks about Gaurav and his family.
Due to a failed relationship with both the children, Mohan feels a void in his life. Stress and depression
make him sick and he is bedridden. He stops talking to Divya too, as after an entire day working for
the office and home she too becomes restless and loud. After a few months, Mohan murmurs Gaurav’s
name in sleep. The family doctor says that any time he passes away, he should call Gaurav and inform
him so that Mohan can see him and relax forever.
Divya feels sad about her, as their entire life, she looked after her father, and in his end days, he is
remembering only Gaurav. She feels she should have gotten married, as when she was a teenage
girl it was her father’s dream to get her married first. She calls Gaurav and Aarti takes the call
and tells her that she will send Gaurav as soon as possible. But she informs him late and by the
time Gaurav reaches home Mohan is silent forever. Divya feels sorry for both of them but gives
him a chance to take a death certificate from the doctor and fulfill his last rites.
Gaurav cries bitterly as he feels his separation has killed Mohan. He goes home and takes his son along
for the last rites of Mohan. Aarti protests and tries to stop him from taking the child. He says all the time
his father longed to take the child in his arms, but now his grandson will give Agni to his dead body so that his
touch remains with him forever.

वाली कंपनी के लिए काम करते हैं। रिश्तेदार उसकी फिर से शादी करने के लिए उत्सुक हैं, लेकिन उसे कोई दिलचस्पी
नहीं है क्योंकि उसे लगता है कि सौतेली माँ अपने बच्चे पैदा करेगी और दिव्या और गौरव को तकलीफ़ देगी।
दिव्या और गौरव एक साथ स्कूल और ट्यूशन जाते हैं, स्कूल से आने के बाद दिव्या घर का सारा काम,
पढ़ाई और गौरव का ख्याल रखती है। शाम को वह उन सभी के लिए भोजन पकाने में अपने पिता की
मदद करती है। मोहन और दिव्या के लिए जीवन संघर्ष है, जबकि गौरव का छोटा होना उसके लिए सब
कुछ आसान कर देता है।
अचानक मोहन अपनी नौकरी खो देता है और खिलौने बेचने का छोटा व्यवसाय शुरू करता है। वह थक जाता है क्योंकि
उसे खिलौनों की दुकान में सामान पहुंचाना पड़ता है। उसे यकीन है कि जिस दिन उसका बेटा गौरव बड़ा होगा, वह उसकी
देखभाल करेगा।
दिव्या और गौरव बड़े होते हैं। दिव्या एक ग्राफिक डिजाइन कंपनी के लिए काम करती है, जबकि गौरव केवल 12 वीं पास है
और शेयर ब्रोकर के लिए काम कर रहा है। दिव्या दिखने में अच्छी है उसके लिए अच्छे रिश्तेआ रहे हैं, लेकिन मोहन दहेज
देने में असमर्थ है। गौरव को आरती नाम की लड़की से प्यार से हो गया है । आरती अमीरपरिवार की इकलौती संतान है, उसे
‘घर जमाई‘ बनने के लिए मजबूर करती है यदि वह उससे शादी करना चाहता है। गौरव गरीबी में पला बड़ा है, इसलिए आरती
का प्रस्ताव उसे पसंद आता है।
गौरव विद्रोह करता है मोहन उसे रोकने में असमर्थ है। मोहन और दिव्या को बताए बिना आरती से शादी कर लेता है, और आरती
के घर में रहने चला जाता है। वह आरती को मिलाने के बहाने मोहन से मिलने आता है और उससे आशीर्वाद मांगता है। वह अपना
सारा सामान ले जाता है और कभी वापस नहीं लौटता है।
महीनों बीत जाते हैं, मोहन को पता चलता है कि आरती गर्भवती है। वह उसके घर फल मिठाई लेके जाता है। आरती न तो उससे
मिलने के लिए अपने कमरे से बाहर आती है और न ही फल और मिठाई स्वीकार करती है। गौरव मोहन को उनसे नहीं मिलने के
लिए कहता है क्योंकि इससे आरती के साथ उसका रिश्ता खराब हो सकता है। आरती एक लड़के जन्म देती है। बच्चा गौरव जैसा
ही दिखता है। आरती और गौरव के बुरे बर्ताव के बावजूद मोहन उनसे मिलने जाता है, लेकिन आरती उसे बच्चे को छूने नहीं देती है।
घर वापस आकर मोहन दिव्या को सब कुछ बताता है, लेकिन वह अपने पिता की बात सुनने के लिए तैयार नहीं है, क्योंकि उसे लगता
है कि मोहन बार–बार आरती के घर जाकर, उन दोनों द्वारा अपमानित होने की गलती कर रहा है। दिव्या को लगता है कि वह अपने
पिता की देखभाल कर अपना जीवन बर्बाद कर रही है और बदले में उसके पिता गौरव और उसके परिवार के बारे में ही सोचते हैं।
दोनों बच्चों के साथ असफल संबंध के कारण मोहन अपने जीवन में शून्य महसूस करता है। तनाव के कारण बीमार हो जाता है और
वह बिस्तर पकड़ लेता है। वह दिव्या से बात करना भी बंद कर देता है, क्योंकि पूरा दिन ऑफिस और घर के लिए काम करने के बाद
वह भी बेचैन और गुसैल हो गयी है। कुछ महीनों के बाद मोहन नींद में गौरव का नाम याद करता है । परिवार के डॉक्टर का कहना है
कि किसी भी समय वह गुजर जाएगा, इसलिए गौरव को फोन करें और उसे सूचित करें ताकि मोहन गौरव को देख सके और उसे
हमेशा के लिए मुक्ति मिल जाए।
दिव्या दुखी महसूस करती है, सारा जीवन वह अपने पिता की देखभाल करती रही लेकिन अपने अंतिम दिनों में वह केवल गौरव को
याद कर रहा है। उसे लगता है कि उसे शादी कर लेनी चाहिए थी, क्योंकि जब वह जवान थी तो यह उसका पिता का सपना था कि
उसकी शादी पहले हो जाए। वह गौरव को फ़ोन करती है और आरती फोन लेती है और उसे बताती है कि वह जल्द से जल्द गौरव को
भेज देगी। लेकिन वह उसे देर से सूचित करती है और जब तक गौरव घर पहुंचता है मोहन हमेशा के लिए चुप हो जाता है। दिव्या को
उन दोनों पे दया आती है, उसे डॉक्टर से मृत्यु प्रमाण पत्र लेने और अंतिम संस्कार करने के लिए कहती है।
गौरव फूट–फूट कर रोता है क्योंकि उसे लगता है कि उसकी जुदाई ने मोहन को मार दिया है। वह अपने बेटे को मोहन के अंतिम संस्कार
के लिए घर सेलेने जाता है। आरती विरोध करती है और बच्चे को ले जाने से उसे रोकने की कोशिश करती है। गौरव उसे कहता है कि
उसके पिता बच्चे को गोद में लेने के लिए हमेशा तरसते रहे, अब उसका पोता उसका अंतिम संस्कार पूरा करेगा, ताकि उसका स्पर्श
हमेशा के लिए उसके साथ रहे।
